Our Team

At MD Irving Therapy, we are proud to have a team of highly skilled and experienced therapists who are dedicated to helping our clients reach their full potential. Our therapists use a variety of specialized techniques, including cognitive-behavioural therapy, to help clients overcome challenges and achieve their goals. In addition, our therapists are also trained in working with children and families, which allows us to provide the highest standard of care. We believe that therapy should be accessible to everyone, and we work hard to ensure that our services are affordable and convenient by offering both virtual and in-person care. About Makeda

I am a doctoral student at Yorkville University, where I completed my Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology. My experience spans across a variety of settings, including specialty clinics, private practice and crisis intervention. I have a broad range of clinical experience working with individuals and groups across the life span in the following areas: depression, anxiety disorders, behavioural and discipline challenges, PTSD, chronic pain and chronic illnesses, self-esteem issues, anger and stress management, conflict management, family and relationship issues, suicide and risk assessment.

My approach emphasizes the mutual development of goals for therapy and the provision of ongoing evaluation of the therapeutic approach. Services can include individual, couples, family and group therapy across the lifespan. I am trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Triple-P Family in Transition, Triple-Fearless and Crisis Intervention. I continue to seek ongoing updates to my skills and knowledge base. I am invested in an approach that promotes a more integrative, dynamic, and holistic approach to mental health. I am particularly concerned with the impact of loss and trauma and improving intervention to support trauma recovery for better emotional, physical and relationship health.

I will help you uncover the patterns of thoughts and behaviours that may be hindering your personal growth. Over the years, I have helped children, adults, families, and couples move towards a better future by building a trusting, caring and understanding relationship with my clients and helping them replace unhelpful behaviours and beliefs with ones that make sense for them.

I will work with you to find ways to achieve your goals, meet your needs, and take a journey to self-discovery, growth, and healing.

My experience includes working with individuals struggling with all forms of anxiety, anger, emotional regulation, depression, stress, body image and self-esteem issues, peer and family challenges, self-harm, and suicidal ideation. I enjoy working with individuals of all ages, and I am so interested in hearing about your unique experiences.

My approach to helping includes positive, evidence-based interventions to help you create pathways and make positive changes. Together we can work towards your ideal future. I look forward to meeting you!

I know it can be hard to ask for help, but I am glad you are here. I provide a safe and inclusive space that nurtures strengths and the development of coping skills to help overcome challenges life throws at you. I believe every person has the power to learn and grow, and I am here to empower you within an open and judgment-free environment by building confidence using evidence-based interventions.

I will walk with you through the process of change, using strength and solution-focused approaches to help you reach your goals. I have experience working with adults, children and youth within mental health and therapeutic recreation settings, integrating positive strategies to create lasting impacts.

I have earned my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology through Yorkville University and have completed my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Brock University, with a post-graduate diploma from Lambton College in Therapeutic Recreation. I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.

Taking the first step is hard, however small the step is. I am looking forward to supporting you on your journey.

We believe that the best results are achieved when there is a strong partnership between therapist and client, and we will work hard to build that partnership with you.

We support the use of multiple therapeutic modalities in order to remain flexible to the needs of our clients, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Client-Centred Approach, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Gottman Method, Motivational Interviewing, Narrative Therapy, Psychodynamic and Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, among other methodologies as necessary.
